For Platon, the body was the prison of the soul; Plotinus, the synthesizer of Platonism, would hide while eating because he was ashamed of his body; for Christianity, the body — “the flesh” — became the place of sin, the transmitter and disseminator of the spirit… In this way, the body ended up imprisoned by the soul, condemned by the very thing that was supposed to guide it.
Then came Nietzsche, who began to listen to it, and showed us that the very reason we pride ourselves on is nothing more than a secretary translating and reducing the body — “the great reason,” as he called it.
Yes, the skin, all of it, is our intelligence. The skin knows before the mind does; it is, simply, our great intuition — the part of us that allows itself to be touched by life, the part that finds the meaning of life by feeling it lived.
In short: the body speaks. The idea is simply to start listening.
Friday, November 14, from 7.00 to 8.30 p.m.
Manu Mariño
Manu Mariño was born in 1966 in Riveira, Galicia.
A wanderer by nature, he has been in contact with various mystical and contemplative traditions through his experiences. These include Christian mysticism via encounters with Cistercian monks, Hesychasm and the practice of Interior Prayer, the Sufi tradition within the Naqshbandi order, and the Theravada Buddhist tradition, of which he is an Insight-Vipassana meditation teacher, having received transmission from the Venerable Ajahn Dhiravamsa.
In 1992, he walked the Camino de Santiago for the first time, from Roncesvalles to Compostela. He is a deep connoisseur of the Camino, which he regards as both a personal transformative experience and a contemplative practice in itself. He has walked the Camino many times, sometimes in complete silence.
Manu guides retreats focused on silence, meditation, and inquiry. He considers Silence to be the supreme contemplative practice, permeating the entire being when one walks in silence for days.
He has developed the practice of Conscious Listening, which he teaches in courses and seminars. He holds a Master’s in Mindfulness from the University of Zaragoza and has led summer courses on Mindfulness and Full Awareness at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has also spoken at international conferences on Mindfulness and Compassion in Zaragoza and São Paulo, Brazil, as well as at the Contemplative Sciences Congress at the University of Zaragoza.
In 1992, he had a spontaneous, non-dual experience lasting approximately nine days, which transformed his perception of reality. This experience led him to undertake the Camino de Santiago for the first time and inspired him to walk it countless times thereafter, exploring the non-dual states that arise from inhabiting silence.
Manu teaches Conscious Listening during retreats, gatherings, and programs, combining inquiry and mindfulness to facilitate non-dual states and a deeper understanding of reality and conditioned states. He currently co-leads the Mindfulness Retreat in Estercuel with Dr. Javier García Campayo, Director of the Mindfulness Master’s program at the University of Zaragoza. He is also co-author of Mindfulness Day by Day – The Joy of Practice (Singlantana, 2020).
He facilitates retreats, gives lectures, courses, and workshops, and offers individual guidance related to contemplative practices, self-knowledge, well-being, mindfulness, meditation, non-duality, conscious listening, and inquiry. He also provides individual and group guidance on the Camino de Santiago.
Manu is the co-director of Quietud: Institute of Contemplative Sciences and the creator of the Quietud Training on Mindfulness, Compassion, and Contemplative Sciences, now entering its eighth edition.
You can contact Manu for individual sessions via Zoom or in person, or invite him to participate in events, lectures, or conferences.
